I got a new fridge!!!

I sort of can't describe how exciting this is to me.

NEW FRIDGE!

(Bea included for scale)

Anyone who knows me knows I like to freeze bloody EVERYTHING. I hate wasting food, and I hate not having food at the ready. I am the kind of person who will cook a giant pot of soup and freeze it in little batches and eat it for a month. With my shitty three-inches-of-frost-size-of-a-shoebox freezer, I couldn't even keep a loaf of bread in there. Even if I could fit it, it would come out coated in frost. And ice cream or anything else requiring super low temps? Forget it. I finally told my landlords I was tired of defrosting, and they got me a new (to me) one that seems to be working great!

I am seriously SO thrilled about this. I'm sorry I'm incredibly boring!

I don't know how you can apologize for monotony when you've just taken a picture of your cat perched in a freezer.

Exactly what I was thinking..... right after admitting that she likes to freeze everything.

It's just so nice to have some food that's pretty much ready to go at the end of the day. I am so happy about that!

Yay! I'm glad the landlords did something about it!

Better watch out there, you're gonna have a Beasicle.

I wish I could freeze. I cook too much and then eat eat eat.

Believe me, freezing stuff isn't going to help me eat less. It'll only lead to eating MORE.

I use a '67 Singer that my mom had before she was married! Why do you ask?

I got so sick of my stupid fridge that I bought a little stand up freezer. My landlords got me a new stove a couple of years ago, I'd be pushing it to get a new fridge. I just hope it dies soon, I think it's from the 80s and I hate defrosting it, especially now that I don't even use the freezer.

Oh, I so feel your pain. Defrosting is so time-consuming and messy, and I hate trucking the contents of my fridge around town trying to find a home for them while four inches of frost melts. I am really grateful for my new fridge.

You know, it IS the law that your appliances have to be functional. If your fridge doesn't maintain a safe temperature, you COULD bring that issue up! Or you could cut a wire in the back...

Sometimes!

Occasionally!

Here's my over-consumerized American's first thought:

"It's so TINY!".

It IS tiny! But since my kitchen is only about the size of the box this fridge originally came in, this is a good thing.

It's very European in that way.

I went to the Quilt Museum last weekend and thought of you.

Only outside, they don't allow cameras in the galleries. I think the online gallery is down at the moment, but check back ...

My apartment's refrigerator is horrendous. I could defrost the freezer every three days, and it would still generate a glacier-thick coating of ice every 72 hours. It's so hopeless.

In other news, you should send that delightful photo to the appliance company to use in the promotion of their product, since Bea is being such a marvelous SpokesFeline. He's perfect. He even matches, colorwise. The Travelocity gnome...the Geico chameleon...the Westinghouse Bea. There is money to be made.

I'm pretty sure they stopped promoting this particular fridge in 1987. It's not new... but new to me is good enough!

I feel your freezer pain, I really do. You should check out your tenants' rights act. In Nova Scotia it's the law that tenants have to be have functioning appliances, if appliances are part of the rental agreement. So I used the fact that the temperature would only stay at a safe level for two weeks after I defrosted it, and that having to clean it every two weeks to keep it functional made it, in fact, non-functional. And voila!
